Personal Development

I believe that the best investment anyone can make is in themselves.

Having more money will not change you. It will only make you more of what you already are. It’s also important to get yourself educated in the areas of wealth management and wealth protection. You don’t want to be financially free, only to lose it all in a few short years like lotto winners do.

I hope you will get excited about creating change in your life.

First and foremost you must want to change, desire is the the starting point of all change.

Secondly you gotta believe,
believe that you can be better, believe that you can have more,
believe that you can and will achieve.

Just as like a farmer who sows because of his faith that he will reap.
We must have faith that we will succeed in our goals for us to take action.

Without belief or faith you will not even begin.

Napoleon Hill

He is a classic self help guru. Some of his best work include,
The Law of Success and Think and Grow Rich.

In the early 1900s Napoleon received an assignment from Andrew Carnegie to do a study of over 500 successful people. This task took him over 20 years to complete. He was also instructed to put all his findings into a report and later publish it as an outline of success principles.

The quality of work and length of time that Napoleon Hill took to complete this project is very inspiring to me. To date I don’t think anyone else has ever spent 20 years of their lives following the most modern successful people to find out their secret of success. I think it would be great if someone did.

His findings and all the common denominators of these successful people were first compiled into The Law of Success and then later Think and Grow Rich.

I have both books, I’ve never finished reading The Law of Success but I’ve read Think and Grow Rich several times.

Think and Grow Rich was just more fun for me to read, I somehow connected more with this book.

These are the necessary elements for success found in each book:

The Law of Success:

1. The Law of the Mastermind 2. A Definite Chief Aim 3. Self-Confidence 4. Habit of Saving
5. Initiative and Leadership 6. Imagination 7. Enthusiasm 8. Self-Control 9. Doing More than Paid For
10. A Pleasing Personality 11. Accurate Thinking 12. Concentration 13. Cooperation 14. Profiting by Failure
15. Tolerance 16. The Golden Rule

Think and Grow Rich:

1. Desire 2. Faith 3. Autosuggestion 4. Specialized Knowledge 5. Imagination 6. Organized Planning
7. Decision 8. Persistence 9. Power of the Master Mind 10. The Mystery of Sex Transmutation
11. The Subconscious Mind 12. The Brain 13. The Sixth Sense

In conclusion to his 20 years of interviews and discoveries, Hill leaves us with this expression,

What the mind of man can conceive and believe, it can achieve.

You may have heard this before. I actually don’t think people really take the time to ponder this expression.

The truth is most people have been so conditioned to failing in life that they’ve stopped believing in their full potential. They stopped believing that they have within them the power to be and do anything.

People read this expression and say, “Yeah right, I’ve imagined having lots of wealth before but it never came true.”

The key to making this work is the word, “BELIEVE”

When your desires give you the imaginations of what you want in life powered by the belief that it can come true. That my friend is when the magic starts.

Of course you may also say, “It’s hard to just believe when I’ve never done it before.”

This is where step number 3. Autosuggestion, comes into play.

Have you ever heard someone tell you to write out your goals, picture in you mind reaching your goals, how good it feels. Put pictures of what you want in your room and look at it everyday. Look in the mirror and tell yourself you are Great, you are a millionaire in the making etc.

This is what Autosuggestion is.
……..these are the little activities that will help your faith, your belief to grow.

Once solidified,
You will be an action taker and and when you start taking action life will change for you.

If you look back at any goals that haven’t worked out. I can almost guarantee you that it was your lack of faith in yourself obtaining that goal that you did not do it.

I highly recommend you reading Napolean Hills stuff. He is number one on my list.

Steven R. Covey

Another very smart man. Dr. Covey graduated with a MBA from Harvard and earned his Doctorate at Brigham Young University. His most well known work is from his book,
The 7 Habits of Highly effective people.

I was only 19 years old when I picked up this book.

The reason I picked him as one my one of top guys in the area of self development is because he focuses on the core problem that we face as we look to bettering ourselves.

Most people will give you ideas and techniques to solve things but these techniques and skills are short lived. To solve problems for the long term you must change your character. Our character is the outcome of our habits.

Here is a diagram of the 7 habits that Dr. Covey talks about.

I believe he also put these in the order of importance.

Lets look at Habits 1-3 which are what Steven calls, the Private Victory.
Only when you have achieved Private Victory will you then be able to achieve Public Victory.

Just understanding habit 1 and changing that about ourselves is already life changing.

When you come to the realization that you are in fact the person responsible for your life and your actions, you will feel empowered and ready to take on the world.

Dr. Covey talks about Stimulus and response.

Between Stimulus and Response is the Freedom to choose. We have the freedom to choose our response.

It does require us to be aware of ourselves and use our independent will. The choice to act a certain way to any situation is ours. This is truth manifested.

We can no longer blame anyone else or anything about how we feel

It is powerful to know that we choose our response to the stimulus. By realizing this we truly become independent. We become powerful because we no longer are reacting but ACTING upon any given circumstances.

The bottom line is, it doesn’t matter what our situation and what cards we’ve been dealt with in life, we have the power to choose our response and ultimately we are the ones responsible for our Destiny.

Anthony Robbins

This guy is one of my favorites because he is entertaining. I actually listen to his CDS and watch his videos more than read his books. The only book I actually finished reading from Tony is “Awaken the Giant within”

I have bought several of Tony’s products over the years. I have his 30 day “Unlimited Power” training and also his 7 day “Get the Edge” They are basically the same stuff but Tony just packs all 30 days into 7 days for the newer product.

The real value I’ve found in Tony’s material is the pain and pleasure principle

Tony talks about pain and pleasure as two masters. We either do things to avoid pain or to gain pleasure. Which ever of the two masters is greater will determine what we will do.

For example, did you ever procrastinated studying for a final exam until the night before the exam and then stayed up all night long studying for it?

Yes, I’m sure you have. We all have. You procrastinated, why? Due to the PAIN of studying all that boring information, and you have more PLEASURE going out with friends.

However when the final exam is the very next day, now all of a sudden you realize you can’t afford to flunk this class. You’ll have to retake this awful class again if you don’t pass.

Your friends still asking to you out and party but you say No, why?
Now the PAIN of not studying becomes greater than the pleasure of going out with friends or anything else. You may have even thought about the pleasure of getting this class over with once and for all.

Pain and Pleasure is what guides our actions.

The secret of success is learning how to use pain and pleasure instead of having pain and pleasure use you. If you do that, you’re in control of your life. If you don’t, life controls you.

Anthony Robbins

In his personal development programs, he has several techniques and ideas to leverage Pain and Pleasure to use for your benefit.

One of these techniques is the science of NLP (Neuro-linguistic Programming)

By linking enough pain and pleasure to certain goals and things you want in life, it will help you take action. The only reason why you haven’t taken action on certain things is because the pain of taking action is greater than not taking action. When you use NLP to make the pain of not taking action greater than the pleasure, you WILL take action.

Robert Kiyosaki

In my own personal finance development I look to Robert Kiyosaki as the guy who has all the answers. His information is practical, makes a lot of sense and is not usually the same kind of information you learn from mainstream Financial Institutions. His best selling book is, “Rich Dad, Poor Dad”

In this book he talks about the different approaches to finances that he learned from his biological dad (poor dad) in comparison to his friend’s dad (rich dad).

His poor dad had the traditional way of thinking when if comes to finances.

Go to school, get a degree, get a good paying job, pension, 401k and retirement.

Rich dad was more like,

Go to school, get educated, build businesses, have people work for you
and let cashflow from your businesses retire you.

Here is the diagram of the cashflow quadrant that Robert talks about in his book.

To view a video I have on Robert Kiosoki explaining his cashflow quadrant click here.

I absolutely agree with Robert and what he teaches because it makes sense. You can not ever get rich working for someone else, and you will never have freedom if you have to ask for permission all the time.

This is essentially what having a job is like. You have to ask for permission if you are late, taking a day off, take a vocation, if you want a raise, sometimes even going to the bathroom believe it or not.

Robert Kiyosaki is the best when it comes to personal finance IQ in my book.

Brian Tracy

Brian Tracy is also well known in the field of personal development. By now if you are still reading, let me just say that there really isn’t much that Brian can teach you about success that the other ones I’ve already listed haven’t covered.

The reason I have Brian Tracy as one of my favorite personal development Gurus is his sales skills.

I had the opportunity to see him speak one time and I ended up buying almost everything he had that night. The only reason why I didn’t buy the rest was because I ran out of money. This comes to show how good of a sales person he is.

His DVD that teaches 24 closing techniques is the best that I’ve seen.

If you want to have better sales skills and techniques I recommend Brian Tracy. He does have some motivational stuff about success that he shares also. He himself is a success story, from high school drop out to where he’s at now.

However, the fundamental principles of success I believe are best taught by Napolean Hill.

Hubert Humphrey

Now here’s a Guru that I actually had a chance to work with first hand.

I first met Hubert in 1998 when I joined his company, WMA securities.

It was my first time doing network marketing and he was the first big leader that I knew in the industry. I was maybe 22 at the time and the biggest dream I had was to get buy a car that won’t die on me. Hubert opened my eyes to possibilities and forever changed my outlook on life.

This guy is one of the best leaders and biggest team builder in the network marketing niche. He got his start in Amway. Spent like 7 years trying to make it big in that company but for one reason or another it didn’t work for him. When Art Williams came along with the concept of selling term life insurance and investing the difference he got involved and really built it big in that company.

His record is having over 1 million recruits on his team. He made so much money his production even beat out Prudential and New York life which were two of the biggest Life Insurance Company giants at the time.

Art Williams later sold the company to Citi Group which then became Primerica.

Hubert left and started his own company in the 90’s called World Marketing Alliance (WMA). He also made a killing in this company given that close to half a million people joined and the companies production was over 4 billion dollars.

I was in WMA, built a small team but it didn’t really go anywhere. What the company did was got me really interested in financial services and MLM. I spent the next 10 years working in financial service related work.

At the beginning of the 21st century Hubert sold WMA to AEGON International and they renamed the company World Financial Group.

A couple years later Hubert resurfaced with another new company called World Leadership Group, WLG.

It had been probably close to 5 years since I heard about Hubert Humphrey again. I jumped on board when I heard about Hubert’s new company.

I suppose it took me 5 years to really understand Hubert’s teachings on business building but I did much better in WLG than I did in WMA. At the peak of my career with WLG, I had over 500 team members and I was consistently making over 10k a month.

Myself and my wife after receiving the company
Super Bowl Ring for being 100k earner.

Myself and wife with Hubert and Norma in Hawaii

WLG was a network marketing company marketing mortgage loan products. Ofcourse, we all know what happened to the mortgage and real estate market in 2008 so there goes that opportunity.

If you are looking to build a team in network marketing or any MLM business the traditional way, you really need to study Huberts business building system. This is his secret to building muti-million dollar MLM companies with over a million recruits and he did it over and over again using this same system in each company he’s started.

Hubert lays out this recruiting system in a very rare book called,

“The magic of Compound Recruiting”

This book is very hard to find. I did see one selling on Ebay recently for $123 dollars. I actually did not know thats the going price for this book now. I actually have 3 copies myself. I gave one away to an old friend just a couple months ago.

If you are interested in this book, please signup for my newsletter so I can update you when I can get more copies. Leave a comment, I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Mike Dillard

This guy is well known in the online marketing world especially in the MLM and network marketing niche. He’s built several very successful businesses online. His big success came with a small ebook called, “Magnetic Sponsoring”

In Magnetic Sponsoring Mike lays out the unexplained reasons why people succeed and people fail when it comes to recruiting.

If you’ve ever been involved in MLM businesses you’ve probably wondered why some people are able to build big teams one business after another while others seem to struggle all the time.

Chances are you’ve never really got any good answers. The answers I’ve heard from previous leaders were, “Don’t worry just keep talking to people, it’s a numbers game. All you have to do is get 3 and teach those 3 to get 3 and so on.

What these leaders fail to tell you is all explained in Mike Dillard’s book. As a matter of fact it’s not really your leaders fault either because they probably don’t even know they possess this particular edge that Mike Dillard talks about.

What I learned from Mike Dillard is the importance of sponsoring from a position of strength and trust. What I mean by that is people will only follow you if they feel they can benefit from being on your team. If you position yourself to be that person, people will be looking for you instead of you for them.

How to obtain this winning edge is explained in the Magnetic Sponsoring. The book cost around $39. In my opinion, the information you learn from the book is priceless. What surprised me also was that the book was only around 60 pages. It was very easy reading, I finished it in one sitting.

One thing I have to warn you about Magnetic Sponsoring though. Mike himself is actually not even running the company anymore so after you buy the book, the company will try to up sell you a bunch of other stuff. Just simply say no if you don’t want it. I don’t want you to be surprised if you decide to buy Magnetic Sponsoring.

Mike Dillard has a new business now called, The Elevation Group (EVG) and it is nothing short of amazing.

In this new business he gathered some of our industries biggest leaders and put them all into one place to educate us on how to be wealthy despite the economic turmoil that our country is going through.

He teaches where and how to invest, how to make more money, what to do with your money, how to protect it etc. He talks about possible hyper inflation and the inevitable collapse of the dollar and how we can position ourselves to benefit from this instead of being victims. Wealth never disappears it just gets moved around and if it’s not in the dollar anymore where’d it go. EVG answers that question.

It does cost somewhere like around $1,000 dollars a year for membership in The Elevation Group.
From time to time I think they do offer discounts.

I started my membership several months ago. Having membership and having access to all this information makes me feel like I’m part of some secret society of the Rich. Seriously, I feel like I snuck in through the back door and found all these ultra wealthy people talking about how they are handling their money now and I get to listen in on what their planning to do with their money for the next 3-5 years.

Here’s a snapshot of the first six lessons. There’s 21 lesson in all. This is EYE opening stuff.

There you have it.

These are some of the top Gurus that I’ve drawn my information from. Hopefully you’ve found the information on this page helpful.

Please leave a comment below if anything in particular stood out for you or if you have any questions.

In conclusion, every single one of these guys offer a wealth of information and I know you will gain priceless knowledge from them but in the end it ultimately comes down to YOU as the person that will change your life.

With that being said, lets get going on making extra income. Stop reading now and start taking action.
